Property is measured in square feet or acres in the US and India, but in square meters elsewhere. Indian land also uses regional units: a cent is 435.6 sq ft (1/100 acre), a ground is 2,400 sq ft in Chennai, and a guntha is 1,089 sq ft (1/40 acre) in Maharashtra and Karnataka. Units such as bigha, kanal and marla differ from state to state, so they are deliberately not included.
