About this converter
A full turn is 360 degrees, 2π radians or 400 gradians. Arcminutes and arcseconds divide a degree by 60 and by 3,600. Degrees are used for compass bearings, maps and everyday geometry. Radians are the natural unit in mathematics and programming: most calculators in radian mode and the sine and cosine functions of programming languages expect radians, so 90° must be entered as about 1.5708. Gradians, where a right angle is 100, appear on some surveying instruments, and turns are handy for rotations in animation and engineering. Latitude and longitude are often written in degrees, minutes and seconds.
