Lakh and crore in millions and billions
1 lakh = 100,000 (one hundred thousand). 1 crore = 100 lakh = 10,000,000 (ten million). 100 crore = 1 billion.
How the two systems group digits
The International system groups digits in threes — 1,000,000 — and names them thousand, million and billion. The Indian system groups the last three digits and then pairs — 10,00,000 — and names them thousand, lakh and crore. The value is the same; only the commas and names differ.
